Winter Leagues Final

Posted on 24 Feb '15 by Siobhán McDonnell

On Sunday we had our 2015 Winter League Final which saw Seve's Sockets V Coogan's Bluff. Seve's Sockets consisted of Seve McGrath, Tony McDonnell, Alan Doyle and Kathleen McDonnell. Coogan's Bluff was made up by Noel Ryan, Christopher Byrne, Evelyn O'Gorman and Adrienne Kelly - Adrienne was subbing for Barbara Coogan.

There was a friendly start when each team won a doubles each - Alan and Seve beat Noel and Evelyn and Christopher and Adrienne beat Tony and Kathleen. In the singles Christopher and Adrienne quickly put 4 more points on the board for Coogan's Bluff when they beat Tony and Kathleen respectively. Seve's sockets needed to win their other two matches to bring it to a playoff. Alan beat Evelyn in one match while Noel and Seve went to tie holes. Noel got a birdie putt on the first tie hole to win his match and to win his team the title. The final score was 8-4. Well done to Coogan's Bluff on winning the 2015 Winter Leagues. It was fantastic to see players in the final who have never been there before and to see a team win for the first time. Congratulations to everyone who played in the competition.

A massive thank you to Halpenny Golf for their kind sponsorship of this competition. Thanks also to everyone who made the leagues a success - The competitions committee, the grounds committee, the subs, everyone who helped out in the kitchen, the bar staff and anyone who helped in any way. It is all greatly appreciated.
