News | Junior League Final | Posted on 3 Aug '14 by Siobhán McDonnell | | Last Thursday night a great crowd travelled over to Long Meadows Pitch and Putt to support Christy Dobbs and his team in their league final against CPM. Lucan have won this junior league the last six years in a row and were eager to make it seven!
Things started off well when Lucan won two doubles, one on the 12th and the other on the 16th. The other doubles was very close but the lads were beaten on the last. This start left the lads looking for three points out of the singles. Three points was what they needed to win the league for the 7th year in a row and also for Lucan to do the treble as the seniors and inters had already won gold.
The team didn't disappoint as they went out in the singles all gunning to win the league. Dave Lee and Ted Flynn got the 3rd and 4th points- Dave having six birdies in 15 holes and Ted getting a couple of brilliant putts towards the end to win on the 18th. One point to go. A few players hoping to get the winning point! Jack King stepped up to the mark when he got a putt on 16 to win the match which brought Lucan over the line. A brilliant standard of pitch and putt was displayed by both sides in the final and could have went either way but in the end Lucan just pulled everything out of the bag to overcome CPM.
Massive congratulations to Christy and his team, to all the players who played over the league. The team who played in the final consisted of Dave Lee, Jay Condron, Jack King, Alan Doyle, Terry O'Shaughnessy, Ted Flynn and M J Maher. As mentioned this win completed the clean sweep for Lucan, winning the gents senior, inter and junior league titles for 2014. We have won four out of five titles as our ladies class one also won gold in their league final a few weeks ago.
A big thank you to all the supporters over the league and to all the people who worked in the kitchen every week, especially our lady captain Sandra who must be sick of making her famous cream cakes! Hopefully the senior persons can win us our 5th league title this year, best of luck to everyone on that team.
