News | Inter League Final | Posted on 30 Jul '14 by Siobhán McDonnell | | Glenville was the place to be last night as it hosted Lucan V CPM in the 2014 Gents Inter DCB League final. This was a replay of last year's final where Lucan narrowly lost to the Clondalkin side. Last night was a fantastic final with a brilliant standard of pitch and putt, it was great to watch.
Lucan started off strong where they won two doubles which meant they lead 2-1 heading into the singles. This meant that the Lucan lads were looking for 3 points in the singles which proved to be a difficult challenge.
Keith Maher was the first to get a singles point on the board where he needed to be well under par to win his match on the 18th. Things weren't looking good for Lucan at this stage with nearly all the matches down but then Paddy Croke pulled everything out of the bag to bring his match to tie holes. The first and second were halved in threes and then on the short elevated third hole Paddy did the unexpected and had a fantastic chip in to get the fourth point on the board. The supporters quickly ran back up the hill to the closing holes to see the last match which would be the decider- Tom McMorrow representing the Lucan club. It was all down to this match and Tom won it on the last hole which brought Lucan over the line to win the inter league for 2014. Congratulations to the Captain Dave Hayden and to all his players on a great achievement.
Our Junior men are playing their final tomorrow night in Long Meadows against a strong CPM side. The very best of luck to Christy Dobbs and his team. The support in Glenville last night (and at the other three finals) was superb and it is much appreciated. We hope to see you all again on Thursday night!
