The draw for the 2012 National Ladies and Gents Matchplay Championships took place yesterday evening in Youghal, Co. Cork.
Lucan's representatives at the Championships, to be played in the picturesque Claycastle Pitch and Putt Club, have been handed some interesting matches.
In the Gents grade, Lucan's sole representative, Captain Johnny Price has been drawn against little known Liam O'Mahony from Ballinlough in Cork.
Lucan have five players in action in the Ladies grade. Phil Condron has been handed probably the toughest first round match after being drawn against last years winner Margaret Hogan from Tullamore. In the second quarter of the draw Barbara Furlong takes on the consistent Vera McCarthy from Collins. Kathleen Croke and Brenda Purcell find themselves in the third quarter of the draw with Kathleen playing Ballinlough's Paula Nolan, while Brenda gets a rematch with Shandon's Maree O'Toole who she defeated only last weekend in the Leinster Matchplay. In the final quarter of the draw Mairead O'Brien has been handed a match with Lakewood's Valerie O'Leary.
