Lucan completed a piece of history with a record breaking sixth successive title in RGSC on Tuesday night. The match with Old County was highly anticipated but sadly for the large crowd in attendence, it never lived up to that billing. The holders dominated the doubles registering two early wins. It looked like they won complete a clean sweep but Old County showed some resilience recovering from dormey two down to force it down the 19th. Tom Brewster from Old County sunk a long putt to earn the point for the challengers and Lucan were leading 2-1after the foursomes.

Old County needed a good start in the singles and it looked like they would get it with Eric Byrne 2up after 6 on Kevin Ward, however Kevin's experience showed as he levelled by the nineth and he continued to surge forward moving 3 up after 14. Eric reduced the lead but Kevin took a 1 up lead down the last. Eric managed a birdie but Kevin showed great resilience to match the birdie and move Lucan 3-1 ahead. The next point wasn't long following for Lucan as Dan Courtney was up against Dave Parsons, Dan had led from early on over Dave and he never relinquished the lead sealing it 3 & 2 on the 16th. Lucan were just one point from victory but they were forced to wait a little longer as Anthony Parsons was to defeat Jonathan Dillon 3 & 2 to reduce the lead to 4-2. However Match 4 was going Lucan's way with Paul Dillon leading Tom Brester 4 up after 13. Brewster won the 14th and missed a putt to win the 15th, but with a dormey 3 up advantage, the Dublin Strokeplay champion
chipped to just a foot on the 16th and Brewster offered his hand to concede, the point was enough to seal the deal for Lucan and the celebrations began.

For Old County it was a third defeat in four years to the same opponents and captain Joe Canning expressed his dissappointment but offered his congatulations to the Lucan team. Hugh Rooney the gent captain and joint manager of the team with Jimmy Thompson was a very proud man of the history they had achieved and he commended the team spirit he had seen throughout the whole campaign. He thanked the Dublin County Board for running the leagues and the RGSC club for the excellent condition of their course. The match marks the end of the regular Dublin Leagues although the senior persons leagues are now in full swing. Well done to Old County, CPM, Lucan, Lucan and Glenville on winning the five titles this season and a big thanks to Erins Isle, Long Meadows, Portmarnock & RGSC for hosting the finals.
