Lucan wont have any players in action on final day of the Leinster Matchplay Championships in Erry, Offaly.
In Tullamore, Dave Hayden II's hopes ended in the first round with defeat to Charlie Egan (Erin's Isle), Dave lost on the last hole despite a valiant fight back from five down with seven to play. Noel Ryan went one round further after beating Ryston's Francis O'Connor in the first round following a superb birdie on the final hole with the match all square. However, Noel was unable to find a way past St. Patricks' Dean Grannel who eventually won 5&4.
In the Ladies Championships at Erry, Katleen Croke got a welcome start to the day with a walkover in the opening round, but her championship was ended by multiple National champion Chrissie Byrne (St. Bridget's) who ran out a 6&5 winner. Barbara Furlong came through her preliminary round tussle with Collinstown's Anne Kelly by a margin of 4&3 and continued her march with a 2&1 victory over R.G.S.C.'s Claire Keely in the first round proper. Sadly there was to be no semi-final berth for Barbara as she finally fell 5&4 in her quarter-final duel with Shandon's evergreen Maree O'Toole. Phil Condron started her campaign in the first round proper, with a very convincing 7&6 victory over St. Bridget's Margaret Keogh, but Margaret's club-mate Tara Dillon but an end to Philo's quest for glory with a 4&3 victory. Tara also put paid to Brenda Purcell's hopes in the round previous by the same score line.
