The Remembrance

Last weekend we held our 1st major of the season. The weather did not let us down either as the sun was splitting the skies. On the day we were honouring some of our passed members from 2025 like Jimmy Buggy and Lady Captain from 1998 Anna McCrory. Our 2016 Presidents Day Overall Champion Pat Grainger and Anne Tully sister in law of Trish Tully. Anne's husband Eamonn Tully won the 1968 All Ireland in Rocklodge. We also remembered all of our members who have passed on and it's always a good competition that can bring up memories of all those members who have passed on.

I would like to say a special thank you to Madelaine and Noel Ryan who as always are there to help out on the Desk and with Cards, Matt Finlay who ran the desk extremely well in my absence and to our resident baker Bryan Barry who made some lovely treats for our members to enjoy.

Well done to all winners. The presentation for the Remembrance will be 16th of May if all our winners could please be available. Also, on that evening there will be a Race Night so plenty of fun to be had.

The Dublin Matchplay

Lucan as always was heavily involved in the 1st Dublin Championship of the season. Starting with the Ladies we had Sandra Keogh who unfortunately came up short against local rival Teresa King from RGSC. Siobhan Keely and Glenda Hoey went head-to-head in the ladies senior grade with Siobhan taking the win but unfortunately was beaten in her next match so for the first time in a few years Lucan does not have a ladies Dublin Matchplay champion.

In the Gents Lucan was represented in all grades heavily with players reaching the Semi Finals in all grades. In the Inter Gents our players played fantastic over in Ierne in the early rounds but by doing so many of them ended up playing each other in quarter finals and last 16 matches. Niall Leahy and Dermot Heffernan met in one match while Michael Byrne and Paul County met in another. But the man who had the deepest run in the Inter grade was Dave Hayden II. After a few quiet months Dave has really started to find his swing again and its great to see him back competing in these kinds of championships. Unfortunately, Dave came up short when they moved to Shandon for the semi finals and lost out to eventual runner up Dave Crum from Portmarknock.

In the Gents Junior Grade Lucan can celebrate with the man who adds to his Dublin Junior Strokeplay victory in 2018, Stephen Needham. This man has been threatening to do something in these championships for a long time now and finally he has got his hands on the trophy. Congratulations to Stephen and good luck In the Inter Grade now.

Finally, to the Gents Senior and Lucan again can celebrate as Chris Gallagher adds his 3rd Dublin Matchplay to his 5 Dublin strokeplays. Chris has now overtaken the likes of Derek Courtney and Davey Hayden in winning the most Dublin Championships. This is a fantastic achievement for Chris and hopefully he can add a Provincial and National title to his trophy cabinet this year. It was a fantastic final as Chris took on another man with Lucan ties our Greenkeeper Stephen Murray. The match went all the way to the last hole with Chris just coming out on top of his friend and fellow Dublin Intercounty teammate for the last few years.

Ace of the Club

After two events in both the Nett and the Gross we have a stacked leaderboard in the Gents and the ladies. Please see leaderboards above for the standings of the top 8 in each format.

We are still accepting entries into the Ace of the Club up until the start of Event 4 so if you enter before playing this weekend you can still enter for events 3 to 8 in both Gross and Nett.

Congratulations

On Monday 27th of April a group from Pitch and Putt Ireland was invited to Aras an Uachtaráin to meet our new President Catherine Connolly. Lucan proudly had 3 of its Honorary members invited along in Anthony ‘Skinner' Malone, Peg and John Smith. All three have been great ambassadors and promoters of our game over their many years of service on Club/Provincial and National Committees. Lucan is very proud of them and this very well-deserved honour of meeting Uachtaráin na hEireann. Congratulations to them all.
