| As the frost settles on Lucan Pitch & Putt, the stage is set for five weeks of drama, rivalry, and plenty of laughs in this fiercely competitive group. Five teams, four matches each, and bragging rights on the line. Let's meet the contenders and the storylines that will keep us glued to the scoreboards. The Teams & Their Firepower Flynn's Fliers Ted Flynn, Catherine Leonard, Mick Purcell, Rita Dillon Combined Handicap: -47 Two semi-finals and a quarter-final in the past three years – these Fliers know how to soar when it matters. Heffo's Army Dermot, Ann, Paul, and Eoin Heffernan Combined Handicap: -53 A family battalion with plenty of grit. Will blood ties translate into birdies? Paddy's Pirates Paddy Croke, Kathleen Croke, Paddy Blake, Trish Anderson Combined Handicap: -37 These Pirates have plundered more than a few scalps in past campaigns. Rooney's Rogues Declan Rooney, Hugh Rooney, Trish Tully, Maria Rooney Combined Handicap: -59 The Rogues boast the lowest combined handicap – but can they turn numbers into wins? The Unknowns David Hargadon, Barbara Coogan, Dave Perry, Brian Hargadon Combined Handicap: -56 Unknown by name, but not by reputation. David Hargadon, one of PPUI's most improved players is the Anchor man for this dark horse crew. Matchups to Watch Paul Heffernan vs Hugh Rooney These two gents will need every ounce of skill to fend off scalp hunters like Catherine Leonard, Kathleen Croke, and Barbara Coogan. These ladies have a track record that would make a Comanche envious – wedges sharpened, eyes on the prize. Brian Hargadon's Gauntlet Brian faces a lady in every singles outing: Ann, Trish, Rita, and Maria. His recent PPUI accolade will only fuel their determination to take him down. Expect fireworks. Trish Tully's Quest for Glory Four chances at a scalp against Eoin, Paddy, Mick, and Dave. If confidence counts, Trish is already halfway there. The Captains' Showdown Ted Flynn, Paddy Croke, Declan Rooney, David Hargadon and 2025 Captain Biffo will bring experience and steel. Few shots given, so expect nail-biting finishes. Predictions (with a pinch of caution!) There's a wealth of experience here, not to mention past Winter League winners and runners-up. Every match will be tight, but if history is a guide, Flynn's Fliers and Paddy's Pirates look like firm favourites, boasting an outstanding track record. But let's not put the Kaibosh on anyone. Best of luck to all teams – may your putts be true | ||||
