Inter County Update

Last weekend was the Leinster Inter County Championships in both Cloghogue and Innishkeen with Lucan well represented on all teams.

Unfortunately due to poor weather the Intermediate and Junior championship had to be postponed to a later date. We had 7 members across both of those teams and also manager of the Intermediate Team Tom Mcmorrow. Hopefully when a new date is announced Dublin can add to a successful Leinster outing.

In the Ladies we had 2 ladies representing the Senior Dublin A team in Glenda Hoey and Tracey Smith. Both playing together in the doubles and shot a -1 in tough windy conditions on a very difficult course Innishkeen. Their teammates Louise Grace of RGSC and Ger Ward of Portmarknock also under par having a -3 round. These scores had the ladies sitting 3rd and needing strong scores in the singles to catch the Kildare ladies who sat in first place on -8. Glenda and Tracey played some fantastic pitch and putt following up their good score in the doubles with rounds of 56 and 55. After all the scores were counted unfortunately the ladies lost out by just one shot for first place to their close rivals Kildare. This positive finish puts the ladies in a strong position to challenge for the National event in Tipperary next weekend and team manager Siobhan Keeley will have the girls firing at the right time.

In the Gents Senior Inter County Lucan had 1 playing member of the Dublin Team in Chris Gallagher. Gareth Walsh was the sub and was full of support for his teammates all day. In the Doubles Chris was teaming up with a good supporter of Lucan's scratch cup and open week winner Gary Healy. With conditions extremely tough in the doubles the 2 lads powered to a -7 which was a good score considering how strong the wind was. Past and Current Lucan scratch Cup winners JR Crangle and George McGreal had a strong doubles round of -8 along with Stephen Murray and Karl Murphy also having a -8 round. The lads finished the doubles 1 shot ahead of Louth. Over the past few years Dublin have been chasing after the doubles and this was a strange position for them to be in to make it 4 in a row. What a performance they put on in the singles, our own Chris Gallagher was first out and he shot out of the traps with 3 fantastic pitches on the first 3 holes going -3 after 3. Another fantastic pitch to the 4th which unfortunately he didn't take advantage of but stood up on the 5th tee and put the ball inside 6 inches. One of the hardest holes on the course all day was the 8th which was strongly into the wind, Chris hit a fantastic pitch to within 3 foot to move to -5 and then had a great par save on the 9th to finish the front 9 -5. Things slowed down a little on the back 9 and Chris slotted home another 3 birdies to finish off his day with a -8 round powering Dublin into a 2 shot lead before his teammates followed him home with some fantastic scores to give Dublin a 12 shot victory in the end.

There will be an update on the Inter and Junior intercounty over the next few days and I will update everyone when an announcement has been made. I would like to wish Chris, Gareth, Glenda, Tracey and Siobhan the best of luck next week in Lakeside as they compete in the National.

This Friday we are hosting the Gents Dublin team as they compete against a Lucan and Old County select in the Davey Hayden Challenge Match. All members should come up and support and enjoy some fantastic pitch and putt.
