News | Leinster Strokeplay Final | Posted on 15 Jul '25 by Gary Ryan | | Last weekend was the Leinster Strokeplay finals in Gowran and Bagenalstown and what a weekend it was for our club in the fantastic weather.
On Saturday we had Paul County coming in 3rd place in the Gents Intermediate. Paul played solid all day and at one time looked like he could do it but just fell short into 3rd place a great performance.
In the Ladies Intermediate Barbara Furlong was runner up just short of the Gold Medal by 2 shots from a local player from RGSC. What a superb performance on a difficult course. Hopefully Barbara can go one better in the National.
Moving to Sunday which was all in Bagenalstown. The Ladies and Gents senior event. Again Lucan was well represented in the placings. In the ladies we had Tracy Smith coming 3rd. Tracey played well all day in the heat and a strong wind and was so close to getting into the Playoff for 1st place just missing out by 1 shot. Tracey played some great pitch and putt all day and will definitely be in with a chance in the National Strokeplay event.
Then in the Gents Senior event, Keith Redmond played absolutely outstanding pitch and putt all day. With rounds of 49 and 47 Keith took a 1 shot lead into the playoff which was full of top players including our own Chris Gallagher and Gareth Walsh. Keith had an amazing front 9 in the playoff shooting a -6 which included a hole in one on the very difficult 7th hole to move him into a commanding lead which stretched even further with another few birdies on the back 9, and even with a scare on the 15th hole, Keith came out as the 2025 Leinster Strokeplay Champion by three shots finishing on a total of -18.
Im sure all competitors from Lucan that played over the weekend will agree there was great support from our Captains Ann and Dermot and President Tommy who stood in the blistering heat for two days for long periods supporting all of our players. Thank you to all 3 of them for the support over two very long days.
Well done to the all who qualified and competed and congratulations to our Winner and Placings.
