News | Inter County Trial Update | Posted on 6 Jul '25 by Gary Ryan | | An update on the inter county trials for all 3 gent's grades after yesterday's senior Trial in Loughlinstown.
In all three Grades Lucan is well represented and should have at least 1 to 2 players on all three teams for the Leinster and National Inter County events. With one trial to go in the Senior Grade, Dublin Strokeplay champion Chris Gallagher has already booked his place on the team with a fantastic -70 for his 5 best counting scores. Gareth Walsh is next best Lucan player with a score of -44 for his best 5 and if he were to do a low score in the National qualifying, he could get his 1st Dublin Jersey in the Senior Grade to add to his Intermediate ones. We then have 4 more players who need low scoring in Portmarnock to possibly grab a spot on the team, Keith Redmond is sitting just outside the top 7 players with a score of -38. Damian Creevey and Gary Ryan are also in the hunt but will need extremely low scores to be in with a chance, Damian is currently -35 and Gary is -34. Jason Larkin -34 will need a strong score on his former home course where he won a Dublin Strokeplay to move into the top 7. The last trial is the 27th of July in Portmarnock and hopefully we can get another 1 or maybe 2 players to join Chris on the team.
In the Inter Grade Lucan is in a strong position to have 4 maybe 5 players on the team. There are 3 remaining trials, but all Lucan players are still in with a chance to be on the team. 2025 Dublin Intermediate Strokeplay champion Aaron Brazil is currently 2nd in the trials and with the best 4 scores to count 1 strong score from the last 3 will see him seal his spot on the team. John Mahony is next in 3rd place. After returning to Lucan after a break away from the game John is in a strong position to get a jersey. Captain Dermot Heffernan is sitting in 4th place. With 3 more chances for Dermot to improve on his score he can cement his place on the team. Fergal Power 5th place. With some good scores Fergal definitely has the ability to hold on and get his Jersey. Vice-Captain Michael Byrne is in a strong position, Michael has only played in 2 trials, but his 2 scores have him sitting on -11 meaning with 2 of his last 3 trials to count he will definitely be looking at taking one of the top 6 places. Pat Byrne also has only 2 trials counting. Pat has 3 chances to make a late surge and could make it 6 players from the Lucan club representing Dublin in the Leinster Inter County.
The Duo of Alan Doyle and Stephen Needham are Top of the table for the Junior Grade. Both Players have represented Dublin before in the Inter County, so they know what they need to do to add another Jersey to their collection. 2025 Dublin Matchplay Runner Up Niall Leahy has only had 1 counting score but with 3 trials remaining could definitely make a late run to climb up the table and get one of the 6 spots for a Jersey.
I would like to wish all players the best of luck in the remaining trials and when the teams are finalised, I will update the website. Ladies Trials have not been posted yet, but we can be sure there will be Lucan players in contention in all grades.
