News | Ladies Scratch Matchplay. | Posted on 27 Jun '25 by Gary Ryan | | Starting with the Ladies and the 1st match of the week saw Kathleen Croke take on a returning member Linda Thompson. Linda has not played for a few years and was fantastic to see such a good player return. Kathleen did however come out on top in this game on the 17th hole. A multiple time winner was next up in Philo Condron who took on Siobhan Keeley with Philo taking the W this time. Lady Captain Ann and Rita Dillon had a mid afternoon match played in great spirit with Rita beating Ann on the 15th hole. Next up was Glenda Hoey V Ann McCann. Glenda who is flying at the moment in County, Provincial and National competition but as everyone knows if anyone can ‘'Ann McCann Can''. After a good battle Glenda did take the win and moved on to Play in the Quarters. 3 more 1st round games came with the 3 winners Trish Anderson, Sandra Keogh and Tracey Smith all progressing to the quarter finals.
On Day 2 we started our quarter final games with an afternoon matchup between Philo and Kathleen Croke which was hard fought and Kathleen took the win moving on to the Semi Finals. Philo one of Lucan's most decorated lady members would not have been easy to beat. Also playing an afternoon match was Kathleen Grainger v Trish Anderson which went all the way up the 18th with Kathleen just taking the win. The 2 evening games were next up and this was Rita Dillon v Glenda Hoey. Glenda took charge in this match with some great pitching which made things hard for Rita who played fantastic in her 2 games, but Glenda moved on to set up a Semi Final clash with Kathleen Croke. Next up was a fantastic match between Tracey Smith and Sandra Keogh with Tracey taking a small lead into the back 9 Sandra would not allow her to get too far ahead with some great par saves from bunkers and difficult positions around the green no matter how much pressure Tracey was putting on, Sandra responded with some great chips and putting. A wayward pitch on the 15th saw Tracey go 2up. Playing 16 Sandra needed to respond, and she did after Tracey's pitch unluckily fell off the side of the green Sandra hit a super pitch to within 8 feet, Tracey like she done all game chipped very close putting pressure on Sandra again and maybe this time it showed as Sandra left her putt just shy of the hole. With the match Dormie Sandra would win the 17th hole setting up a nervy 18th. Tracey's pitch again very unlucky not to hold the green just rolling off the back but left a tough chip, Sandra's ball went into the bunker. Sandra's bunker shot only just made it out of the sand and it looked like this was going to be Tracey's day, but Sandra went and chipped in from a most unlikely position leaving Tracey with a difficult up and down which she could not convert so we moved on to the Tie Hole. After a fantastic pitch onto the green and a very harsh lip out from Tracey Sandra took the W and moved on to face Kathleen Grainger in the Semi Final.
In the Semi Finals Kathleen Grainger and Sandra played early in the afternoon. Sandra would be victorious moving her into another matchplay final in the club. In the other semi final, we had Kathleen Croke and Glenda Hoey. After a great match and some great pitch and putt from both players it was Kathleen who would advance into the Final to play Sandra. After a great week of Pitch and putt from our ladies it is down to the final two Kathleen V Sandra. Who wins? Come up tonight for 6pm to watch and support both players.
