News | Condolences - Christy Kane (R.I.P) | Posted on 19 Mar '25 by Maria Rooney | | St. Patricks weekend has annually and traditionally marked the beginning of a new season for Lucan Pitch and Putt Club – an occasion of celebration and optimism for the year ahead. Sadly in 2025 the opening of the new season was muted and respectfully so as our club heard of the passing from this life of Christy Kane (R.I.P).
The committee and members of Lucan Pitch and Putt Club wish to extend their sincere sympathies to his children Nicola, Darren and Darragh and his sister Peg Smith and the extended families. May Christy's gentle soul rest in peace.
Throughout many decades of his life Christy enjoyed to the full many happy days from playing pitch and putt. His enjoyment was made so simple – just to be able to travel up the Lock Road, meet and greet a member who was willing to join him on the first tee box or otherwise challenge the course on his own. Being a member of Lucan Pitch and Putt Club was always such a proud part of his life. Christy was a complete exponent of all the skills that the game demands irrespective of weather conditions. Yes, Christy will be remembered as a sporting and honest pitch and putt player who was at ease in the company of the highest achievers in the game of the last sixty years.
Christy's contribution and unselfish energy given to the progress and development of the Lucan Club can never be questioned – so proud to be Club Captain in 1989, President from 1995 to 1997 and an honorary member of our Club. Christy served his Club in whatever area of administration and voluntary help that the Club required of him. Though his failing health in recent years limited his involvement in Club affairs his enquiring mind was always busy to know that the Club was doing well.
End of life has called Christy and Lucan Pitch and Putt Club must bid farewell to one of its's own. We must be ever thankful and respectful of the kind hearted and gentleman that Christy Kane was to those who were fortunate enough to know him – we were.
