News | National Matchplay qualifying - Preliminary Round | Posted on 9 May '12 by Dave Hayden II | | | | | | The opening night of qualifying for the 2012 National Gents Matchplay Championships got underway last night in C.P.M. and Shandon respectively. It was a night of mixed fortune for Lucan players with 3 progressing into Round 1 proper, while an unlucky 2 seen their hopes dashed.
On the Southside of the city the night started with a positive when Johnny Price received a walkover, however things quickly turned sour when Anthony Malone was defeated by Loughlinstown's Gary Healy. Steven Keegan booked his place in Round 1 proper with a victory over Glenville's Anto Gray while Darren Kane emerged victorious over club mate John Kenny.
There were no Lucan players involved in preliminary action on the Northside draw.
