60th Diamond Jubilee – of Lucan Pitch & Putt Club
We will be hosting our Club's 60th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary on Saturday 1st July 2023. This is a great honour for our club and we are inviting all past and present members to participate in the events during the day and evening
Lucan Pitch and Putt Club was founded in 1963 and from very small beginnings, the Club situated at the 12th Lock along the banks of the Grand Canal, has developed into a prosperous and successful sporting facility. Catering for all ages it welcomes one and all from the Lucan area and its environs. It is a great tribute that we can celebrate our Diamond Jubilee in such strength of numbers and in ownership of our own course and clubhouse.
The history of Pitch and Putt in Lucan is indeed a very proud and successful one and has produced some of the most skilful exponents of the sport at the highest level. The promotion of Pitch and Putt has always been and continues to be the number one purpose of our Club's very existence.
The Lucan Club has in no small way also contributed to the administrative end of Pitch and Putt with members of our Club serving as Officers on the Dublin Board, Leinster Council and we are very proud that Peg Smith served for many years as Secretary of the P.P.I and John Smith served as a very successful President of Pitch & Putt Ireland. Our own Anthony (Skinner) Malone is the current Chairperson of the Dublin Board.
Throughout the years the Club has achieved National, Provincial and County titles which include several All Ireland Championship triumphs.
Club competitions are organised for members throughout the year. Our weekly and major competitions are each year all played between St. Patrick's weekend and end of September. We are very thankful to local business houses who sponsor many of the major competitions during the year. We are then into the Turkey competitions from October until Christmas and for January and February we have our Winter Leagues. With such a packed fixture list it's safe to say you'll never be short of a competition to play in. And if that is not enough you will have County and National competitions.
