News | John Forde R.I.P | Posted on 9 Jul '22 by Maria Rooney | | This being Captains' Prize weekend in our Club, traditionally a weekend of celebration and joy we must take time out to mourn the passing of our honorary member and one of Lucan's most outstanding club members. John Forde left this world on Thursday last the 7th July and though his health had been in decline for some considerable time his passing brings home to us all at Lucan Pitch and Putt Club the temporary nature of this life.
Nigh on 50 years a member of Lucan - John worked tirelessly on committees for many decades with advice and encouragement and a commitment to steer our Club in a positive direction into the 21st century. Never one to court stardom or recognition - John was a formidable architect of the skills of Pitch and Putt and his input into the growth of Pitch and Putt at the 12th Lock can never be overstated but has always been appreciated by those who knew him or worked with him.
John was Captain of our Club in 1981 and President during the 90's - arguably the strongest decades of Pitch and Putt both nationally and locally and in those figurehead positions of our Club, John continually advanced the strengths and achievements of Lucan players in the company of visiting dignitaries or those in authority at the National Level of the sport.
When circumstances did not allow John to engage himself at committee level, John gave many years to the beautifying of our course in the plantation and upkeep of flowers and plants.
For Lucan Pitch and Putt Club, John's passing means that the chain to its early days is another link weaker, but the reasons to recall our past is ever stronger.
To John's sons John, Paul and David we extend our deepest sympathy and regret.
