Winter League - Week 5

We now know the teams who qualified for the quarter finals after some very close matches last Sunday morning. In Group A - the Dan Dans and the Murphs qualified. In Group B the Poppys and McCann Canns qualified. In Group C - Paddy's Pirates and the Diggers qualified. The Diggers are the holders of this competition and just squeezed out the Fridge Magnets by a point to qualify. In Group D -the Philipos and Rooney's Rogues qualified. As both Rooneys' Rogues and the Golden Oldies finished on the same number of points we had a play off over 9 holes with Kathleen Croke for the Golden Oldies and Donal Cahalane for Rooneys' Rogues. Kathleen was happy to be the one to represent her team. Donal felt that a play off for him was a thing of former days but he was the player the team preferred. Donal rolled back the years in his play off with Kathleen and won the day to put Rooneys' Rogues into the quarter final.

Well done to Noel Ryan (Competition Secretary) and his team who have organised this competition and ensured that it ran smoothly over the last number of weeks.

The quarter final line up is as follows:

The Dan Dans V Rooneys' Rogues
The Poppys V The Diggers

Paddy's Pirates V The Murphs
The Philipos V McCann Cans

Congratulations to the ladies - we had six scalps this week. Adrienne Kelly beat Seamus McCormack, Catherine Leonard beat Kevin Ward, Marie O'Toole beat Christy Dobbs, Lady Captain Barbara Furlong beat Donal Cahalane, Sandra Keogh beat Mick Stratford and Kathleen Croke beat Paul County

Ladies please note that weather permitting and the course being open we will have our usual Saturday 9 hole scramble at 1pm.

Welcome Back
It was great to see Jimmy Thompson back in the club last weekend. Wishing you continued recovery Jimmy. It was also great to see Eugene Farrelly in the club last Sunday. Rumour has it that the Dream Team (who had a nightmare last weekend) are looking to sign up Eugene for the team next year!

Presentation
Our President called on our Captains who made a presentation on behalf of the members to John & Peg Smith who celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary last week. The President congratulated Peg & John and thanked them for all the years they have given to Pitch and Putt. He also thanked them for the continued help they both give to our Club. It is great to see John and Peg looking so good after 60 years of married life - congratulations to you both and long may you have continuous good health.

Condolence
The committee and members wish to extend their sincere sympathies to former long time member Aileen Dempsey and family on the death of her mam Prim Dempsey (RIP).
Work on the Course/Clubhouse
For the past number of Saturdays we have seen Rudy Keegan and his helpers building a decorative wall at the back of the 13th tee box. We have seen Tommy Coogan making a beautiful job of the plastering of the wall at the front of the clubhouse. We have seen Terry O'Shaughnessy and Ted Flynn look after the maintenance of our clubhouse. Paddy Croke and his team who look after the maintenance of the course have come under pressure these past number of weeks due to two of the team being hospitalised - but it still did not deter this team from having our course in great order for our Winter League.

We as a club are so lucky to have members who give so freely of their time to help our club. If you have an hour to spare during the week or on a Saturday we are always delighted to receive help.

We have other members who again help out willingly in different areas of the club and over the next number of weeks we will cover these areas.
