Club Strokeplay

On a rainy and windy Saturday last we had our club strokeplay the first of our majors. With first card out on the course for 9am and cards all the way up to 2.30. With competition Secretary Christopher Byrne making sure everything was going smoothly and everybody had playing partners.
When the scores started coming in we thought the weather was going to affect low scoring but how wrong we were. In the junior men's section the early morning lead was set by John Byrne with 111 which could have been so much lower only for a wayward shot on 16. John would hold that lead until Jay Condron came in with a back 9 in his second 18 that most would kill for, kicked off by a hole in one and followed by a streak of 2's Jay would take a 1 shot lead into the playoff.
In the senior gents scores as always were very strong with both Keith Maher and Terry McMorrow hitting 95 to hold a joint morning lead. In the afternoon tho it would be Dave Hayden snr who would take a lead into the playoff as he hit a 93 after two great rounds.
The inter men must have all played around the same time as it seemed all the scores for this section came in at the same time but nobody even came close to Tom Mcmorrow who blitzed the course with a superb 99 to give him a 5 shot lead from the chasing pack of players.
The ladies sections were very tightly fought out with the ladies class one very very tight after 36 holes with Philo Condron and Linda Thompson very close with only a shot between them. In the playoff tho it was to be Linda's day who held her nerve and sank a putt on 18 To beat philo by a single shot.
The ladies class 2 section was fought out by 3 ladies to be crowned strokeplay champion. Dora Keane, Bernie Blake and Eileen Loakman tussled in the playoff and it was very close but Eileen would prevail and win the battle from Bernie to get the winners spot.
In the junior playoff there was a shot between John and Jay and after 4 holes Jay had lost his lead to John only to regain it again with another hole in one and this would spur Jay on to finally win by 4 shots from john.
In the inter section Tom did not let up and cruised to an eleven shot victory from Mick Donnelly who had a great playoff round to get himself the runner up spot.
The senior playoff was extremely tight as any of the top six could have won BUT Dave was not going to give up anything and would finish off his day with another Great round to claim the senior grade from runner up Keith Maher.
